Column-Steeple Repair

During the fall of 2007 the Trustees began looking at the repainting of the front columns and steeple areas of the sanctuary as part of normal maintenance. Through this process it became known that the existing paint on two of the columns, the steeple and areas surrounding them have lead based paint on them. In an effort to keep our environment safe and to follow the laws surrounding the handling of lead based paint, the trustees began obtaining quotes for the paint removal and repainting of all of the columns and steeple area.

This project was really a two step process. Removal and disposal of the existing lead based paint, and then the application of a new coat of paint.

The price of the paint removal, disposal and surface preparation is approximately $13,000. The cost for repainting the columns, steeple and ceiling area is around $14,000, bringing the total cost of this project to around $27,000. This particular painting system carries a 30 year warranty.

This type of unexpected expenditure is never easy to absorb. The Church has some money available for maintenance and repairs; however, this is quite an undertaking for our budget.

The trustees have set up a separate fund for anyone who wishes to donate money specifically for this project. We ask that you prayerfully and carefully consider donating funds to this project in the coming weeks. Please mark your contributions for COLUMN/STEEPLE REPAIR FUND.
