"Serving God by Serving Others"

Discretionary Emergency Relief Fund Established
In Acts 2:44-47, we find this description of early Christians:
“All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
In response to an awareness that many factors can result in financial hardships for persons, on February 17th, our Mission Committee and our Care Network requested our Church Council consider establishing a Discretionary Emergency Fund to be used for our church family. Our Trustees have established this Designated Fund for donations. In addition to this designated fund, this need will be included in our 2009 budget.
I’ve been asked to serve as the contact person for emergency fund requests. Requests will be kept confidential. One member from both the Care Network and Missions will join me in making decisions concerning disbursements of these funds. Names will not be disclosed in this process. The intent of this fund is to help persons with an emergency or unexpected financial need, when other resources are not available.
If you would like to make a contribution to this fund, please indicate on your check or envelope: “Emergency Relief Fund”.
What an incredible gift from God it is to be called to serve with caring and giving people,
Linda Kelly
