At WUMC we offer two opportunities to worship on Sunday mornings: 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Pastor Deval Mason leads both services and is sure to make you feel welcome. We invite you to worship with us at either time. Our worship services are traditional Methodist. A typical worship service at WUMC may include a greeting and opening prayer, time for people to greet each other, scripture readings, silent prayer and meditation, an offering, the Lord’s Prayer, a children’s message, the sermon, special music and hymns, and a closing prayer. We want you to know that we are dedicated to meeting the needs of people wherever they are in life. While you are browsing our website, you will learn about our programs and get a glimpse of who we are, but only a glimpse. Sunday School
Sunday School is available for ALL ages at 10:00am each Sunday. We have a nursery for the little ones, classes for children in Preschool-6th grade, Youth, and Adults! Adult Sunday School There are three options: Explorers – meet in the Love Conference Room in Fellowship Center (across the street from the sanctuary). Bible 101 – meets in the Education Building, Bob Brown Classroom on the first floor, down the hallway on the left as soon as you enter the building. We sometimes hear “What Would Jesus Do?” when faced with faith issues. But “What Did Jesus Say?” about being disciples and spreading the Good News? We are studying the Synoptic gospels and John’s gospel in a parallel fashion to re-discover Jesus’ words for today. Ignite – meets in Room 301 top floor of Education Building. Ignite is made up of parents of school aged children and we utilize the small group time to study various Christian-based topics (parenting, books of the Bible, current events and the Christian life, etc.) We work together to help support each other’s faith journeys and are like the family we never knew we needed! Ignite participates in family-oriented community service projects and regularly helps with Children’s events like teaching Sunday School, volunteering in the nursery, Easter Egg Hunt and other such activities. Come join us in a relaxed atmosphere, where we leave the judgement behind and learn more about Christ’s Love. Children’s Sunday School Taught year round except during summer months. UM Men
“ . . . joining together in service, Christian fellowship and spiritual growth.” Do you enjoy breakfast? How about working with other men in Christian fellowship to serve the community? If you answer yes to those questions then Weaverville United Methodist Church’s United Methodist Men is for you! Our UMM has a long history of service both to the Church and our Community. We have: Cleaned shut-in member’s gutters Put a roof on a dormitory at an At Risk Youth Camp Built handicap access ramps for Mountain Housing Opportunity We even built the garage at our parsonage! Our primary mission project now is Kairos Prison Ministry where we are the home church for the 40 plus men who go into Craggy Correctional Facility twice a year to share the word of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a powerful ministry! Not only do they use our facilities but one of our primary support missions is providing them a hearty breakfast to start their day of service. Did we mention hearty breakfast? Our UMM meets in Christian fellowship the second Sunday of each month to enjoy a robust breakfast of: eggs, grits, bacon/sausage, biscuits, gravy and other items. Youth Ministry
Our Youth Ministry is geared for Middle through High School. WUMC Youth is a place to meet Jesus as you are. We have youth from 6-12th grade and everyone is welcome! We have regular youth meetings on Sunday nights at 5pm in the youth room, followed by dinner at 6 in the Fellowship Center. We learn about God’s Love through fellowship, music, games, devotions, and our friendships with each other. We also like to visit other places of worship to gain an understanding and respect for all God’s people. Youth also reaches out to our local community through mission projects with organizations like AHOPE a Homeward Bound Organization, Senior Meal Site at FBCW, WUMC Preschool, Helping Hands Preschool, and with our larger Weaverville community. Youth also holds lock-ins, attends summer retreats, goes rafting, hiking, tubing, ice cream runs, and lots of other fun activities! Come meet with us and your friends to have fun and fill up on Jesus! Music Ministry
WUMC includes special music every Sunday, featuring church members and professional musicians. The Chancel Choir and the Handbell Choir are led by Music Director, Charlie Harnish and both choirs rehearse on Wednesday nights. The Chancel Choir sings during our 11:00am Worship Service each week. Under the direction and teaching of Holly Leavitt, our preschool offers a quality experience for 3 and 4 year old children. The preschool is in session from August through May.
